Welcome to the 11th Battalion AIF and the Gallipoli Trench Project.
Based in Geraldton, Western Australia, 400kms north of Perth, 11th Battalion Living History Unit is a living history and commemorative group dedicated to researching and representing Western Australia's first and finest Battalion.
The group also embarked on a major project, recreating a living Gallipoli Trench complete with sound systems, actors and all the paraphernalia of war to make the experience for visitors as real as possible. Officially opened on 19 November 2016, the first cruise ship tour actually started on 15th November and was the first of many projected. The trench will be open at specified times during the year (refer to Find Us and Information tab).
The trench is an authentic replica of a captured Turkish trench as taken by the 11th on the night of 31st July 1915 and named for the commander who led the attack, Capt R. L. Leane.
See the page dedicated to this project.
May 2024
We have had a large number of visitors on each open day so far this year and we appreciate the positive feedback from everyone who has paid us a visit. We hope the experience was educational and that you learnt something new. We would also like to thank those who shared their family history with us.
We also had our friends from Disaster Relief Australia visit us and carry out further maintenance work on the trench. Your efforts as usual are greatly appreciated and we would like to thank the team of Steve, Wayne, Ian, Rocky, Mark and Dixon.
October 2024
