Leane's Trench will re-open in April 2023

Welcome to the 11th Battalion AIF and the Gallipoli Trench Project.

Based in Geraldton, Western Australia, 400kms north of Perth, 11th Battalion Living History Unit is a living history and commemorative group dedicated to researching and representing Western Australia's first and finest Battalion.

The group also embarked on a major project, recreating a living Gallipoli Trench complete with sound systems, actors and all the paraphernalia of war to make the experience for visitors as real as possible. Officially opened on 19 November 2016, the first cruise ship tour actually started on 15th November and was the first of many projected. The trench will be open at specified times during the year (refer to Find Us and Information tab).

The trench is an authentic replica of a captured Turkish trench as taken by the 11th on the night of 31st July 1915 and named for the commander who led the attack, Capt R. L. Leane.

See the page dedicated to this project.

2022 End of Year Wrap

2022 has been a busy year at the trench, with large numbers of visitors on each open day.

To everyone who paid us a visit during the year, we hope the experience was educational and that you learnt something new. Thank you for your patronage and also thanks to our local sponsors.

The members of the 11th Battalion Living History Unit would like to acknowledge and say thank you to the Disaster Relief Australia and Ausco teams that came out to our site over the weekend of 26/27 November and helped us rebuild and repair large sections of Leanne's Trench.

Your efforts were outstanding and you saved our local members at least 6 months of hard work.

So a big THANK YOU to:

Deaks, Dixon, Godfrey, Helmut, Peter, Sam, Wayne and Wayne from Disaster Relief Australia, and also Alex, Mark, Michael and Robert from Ausco. True Aussie mates, one and all.

From all of us at the 11th Battalion A.I.F. Living History Unit, we wish you all a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.
